What is composite
A composite material (also shortened to composite) is a material made from two or more
constituent materials with significantly different physical or chemical properties that, when
combined, produce a material with characteristics different from theindividual components.
The individual components remain separate and distinct within the finished structure. The
new material may be preferred for many reasons:common examples include materials
which are stronger, lighter, or less expensive when compared to traditional materials.
Typical engineered composite materials include:
1.Composite building materials, such as cements, concrete
2.Reinforced plastics, such as fiber-reinforced polymer ( FRP)
3.Metal composites
4. Ceramic composites (composite ceramic and metal matrices)
What is FRP
Fibre-reinforced plastic (FRP) (also fibrereinforced polymer) is a composite material made
of a polymer matrix reinforced with fibersThe fibres are usually glass, carbon, aramid, or
basalt. The polymer is usually an epoxy, vinylester or polyester thermosetting plastic, and
phenol formaldehyde resins are still in use.
These materials work in concert to provide a specific set of strength and performance
properties, including:
·1. Light weight with high strength
·2. Corrosion free and impact resistant
·3. Dimensional stability
·4. Electrically non-conductive( Fiberglass products)
·5. Non-magnetic and non-sparking
·6. Low thermal conductivity
·7. Rapid installation with standard tools
·8. RF transparency
Traditional materials have their place. But for harsh, corrosive or other specific environments, Pulwell’s FRP is a smart choice. Contact Pulwell for RFQ today!
Pulwell pultruded FRP products have the strength of steel at a fraction of the weight.
It won’t corrode, rot, attract insect damage or conduct electricity. It can be formed into
countless FRP profiles to fit your specs. And decades later when those other materials
need to be replaced, it will still have plenty of life.
